Biography

Dr. Grant Garrigues is a leading expert in shoulder and elbow surgery, recently joining Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) from Duke University. At Duke, he served as Section Head for Shoulder Reconstruction, Co-Director of Upper Extremity Trauma Surgery, and Co-Director of the Duke Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship. Renowned for his patient care, Dr. Garrigues is a multiple-time recipient of the five-star patient champion award and consistently receives high patient satisfaction scores. He treats each patient with the utmost care, as if they were a member of his family.

Dr. Garrigues earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard University and completed a research degree at MIT. His orthopedic surgery residency was at Duke University Medical Center, followed by a Shoulder and Elbow Surgery fellowship at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. He was selected for a prestigious 6-week European traveling fellowship, where he visited eight top shoulder centers in Europe to both share his expertise and learn advanced surgical techniques.

His clinical focus includes shoulder and elbow conditions, with specialties in shoulder arthritis (including shoulder replacement), shoulder and elbow fractures (with minimally invasive options), complex shoulder instability (such as arthroscopic Latarjet), and massive rotator cuff tears (including all-arthroscopic superior capsular reconstruction).

Dr. Garrigues actively publishes in national journals and presents at local, national, and international conferences on cutting-edge shoulder and elbow surgery topics. His research, ranging from rotator cuff to arthritis and fundamental sciences to population health, has earned him multiple awards, including a 2018 Orthopaedic Research and Education grant for a multicenter trial on physical therapy after reverse total shoulder arthroplasty.

Additionally, Dr. Garrigues has contributed to the design of FDA-approved shoulder replacement systems and holds several patents. He is a co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox (MLB), the Chicago Bulls (NBA), and DePaul University in Chicago.
